Work should be paid for, in coin or by other means

For writers looking for freelance editing and consulting, budget issues can be a big concern. The same holds true for the freelance editor and/or consultant providing the service.

I am willing to negotiate with clients seeking my services. The following pricing lists are for reference only – these are the current market rates, found on other sites online. They are given here to give you an idea of what the services may cost you.

Word count or page count (for scripts only) are the measuring factors for considering the size of your manuscript. Word count is the measure for prose works, no matter whether it is non-fiction or fiction, long or short. If you are unsure about the word count (because you composed in the page format you intend to publish it), almost all word processing programs have a function that will give you the word count for your document. Please use that, as it gives me a more accurate estimate of your manuscript than the page count.

Proofreading.
One and a half cent per word, depending on the length of the work. Multiply the word count by $0.015 for the approximate cost on your manuscript.

Basic editing.
_____One and a half cent per word, depending on the length of the work. Multiply word count by $0.015 for range of cost on your manuscript.

Deep editing and notes.
_____Two to two and a half cents per word, depending on the length of the work. Multiply word count by $0.02 to $0.025 for range of cost on your manuscript.

SCRIPTS
To calculate page count for scripts, use Courier 12, screenplays in standard format. (Courier 12 is the easiest font for edit reading.) If you are seeking close editing and proofreading, this is the best format for your manuscript.

Basic script read and comments
_____$2.00 per page, with a $100.00 minimum for feature scripts. (Comic book and graphic novel scripts need to be discussed and negotiated.)

Deep script read with line notes and comments
_____$2.50 to $4.50 per page, depending on what you want done.

Again, these are all SUGGESTED RATES, not written in stone. Know what your budget is, and be willing to consider the options available to you.
