Prepping a manuscript & Conventions

I’m currently preparing the manuscript of The Scribbler’s Guide to the Land of Myth for publication with BookSurge. I’ve still got a couple of more evenings ahead of me in the final proofing before submitting it to them for layout formatting. Then, after they’ve gotten it formatted, it will go to a friend who will build the index for it. The whole process is likely to take four months. But at long last, after trying to get a publisher to go with it the way I want it, it will FINALLY be in print and available to all the friends whose ears I’ve bent on the subject.

During the time it’s being prepared for printing, I’ll also be setting up a website just for the book. I’ve already secured the domain www.scribblersguidetomyth.com – but at the moment, it just points to the ScribblerWorks main site. Once I’ve gotten latest updates to the ScribblerWorks site done, I’ll be building the Guide to Myth site.

And what, you ask, is the Scribbler’s Guide to the Land of Myth about? It’s a reference book for storytellers, explaining mythic motifs in detail – what they are, what they do, what the traditional associations of certain imagery are. If you thought the “Hero’s Journey” was completely covered by Campbell or Vogler, think again. What I’ve done, isn’t really so much about the structure of the story (as the previous writers have focused) as it is about what the various elements mean. And I spend a lot of time on character archetypes as well, expanding the vocabulary, as it were. But I also cover things that nobody else has ever cover this way – the significance of time and seasons, of weather, and of landscape. It’s a comprehensive book.

And now that I’ve completed that sales pitch, on to other things.

Comic book convention season is beginning to roll out. Next weekend (the 14th through the 16th) is the Wizard World LA convention. I intend to be there most of the weekend.

About Sarah Beach

Now residing in Las Vegas, I was born in Michigan and moved to Texas when 16. After getting my Masters degree in English, I moved to Hollywood, because of the high demand for Medievalists (NOT!). As a freelance writer and editor, I find that Nevada offers better conditions for the wallet. I love writing all sorts of things, and occasionally also create some artwork.
